This past May, I had the unique pleasure of guest starring on a podcast for the first time. I feature on Episode 21 of Around Grandfather Fire, a podcast by James Stovall and Sarenth Odinsson that covers “topics from Shamanism to Psychology, and from Science to Popular Culture.” I know Sarenth from the online Heathen community, and he reached out to me late last year about the opportunity to speak on Around Grandfather Fire as a guest. Due to our busy schedules, we weren’t able to arrange the interview until April, so I had plenty of time to prepare — and plenty of time to be nervous!
Sarenth told me that he and Jim wanted to chat with me about The Longship, my pet project for the last two years. I was happy to oblige them; that website is my pride and joy, and I have poured countless hours into producing it. Nevertheless, on the appointed morning of the interview, I found myself jotting down notes, answers to the questions I anticipated Sarenth and Jim would ask. The last thing I wanted was for my mind to go blank in the middle of the interview.
I shouldn’t have worried at all. Jim and Sarenth are great guys who made me feel very welcome and comfortable during the Skype call. They directed the flow of conversation while listening patiently and intently to my [sometimes meandering] answers. I had a fun time, and I’m grateful to them for considering me for an interview. I have always wanted to feature as a guest on a podcast, and I could not have asked for a better first time!
